I once told someone “I’m a baker.”
I was using boxed mixes from the store. I was so emphatic though, that he never pointed out that glitch. Over time, he planted the idea that maybe I should start checking out some original recipes.
After I mastered a few cupcakes from scratch, he suggested I look into original frosting recipes.
Without my knowing, I had actually become a “baker”. Family and friends started gifting me pastry bags, triple-decker cupcake carriers, batter dispensers and piping tools. I’m still working on my skills, but I learned if you say something with enough authority, you can work to make it happen.
I bake because it’s a scientific art project that you get to eat in the end. And that one bite can have enough taste and texture to tell a whole story.
